Skin and mole checks - simple and reassuring

Do you have a mole that has changed, itches or simply worries you? At NurseCare's clinic in Copenhagen, you can have your skin and moles checked - with no referral needed from your own doctor.

Experienced healthcare professionals photograph the moles or skin changes you would like assessed. The images are then assessed by a specialist in dermatology (dermatologist), and you get an answer within a week - usually within 48 hours. The clinic staff do not make a diagnostic assessment - the assessment is always made by a dermatologist.

Since 2001, NurseCare has provided health checks and vaccinations at workplaces across Denmark - more than 150,000 people have been checked or vaccinated by our experienced healthcare professionals. We now have our own clinic, so you can also come to us as an individual.

Check your own moles every six months

Between checks, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your skin yourself. Use two mirrors for your back and the backs of your legs, remember your scalp, ears, soles of your feet and inner thighs, and take photos of moles that look irregular, so you can follow any changes over time. If you are unsure about a mole, book an appointment - that is exactly what the clinic is for.

When should you have a mole checked?

According to the Danish Cancer Society (Kræftens Bekæmpelse), you should pay attention if a mole:

  • Changes size, shape or colour
  • Is asymmetrical or has uneven edges
  • Is more than 6 mm in diameter or has several colours
  • Itches, crusts or bleeds
  • Is new and growing

The same applies if melanoma runs in your family, or if you have had a lot of exposure to the sun or sunbeds. In the vast majority of cases, melanoma and skin cancer can be cured if detected in time - and a check gives you peace of mind.

How your mole check works

1. Choose your moles

Before your visit, look over your body and choose 1-3 moles or skin spots you would like assessed - ideally with help from your partner or a friend. Bring your Danish health insurance card (sundhedskort) if you have one.

2. We take the photos

At the clinic, experienced healthcare professionals record and photograph your chosen moles using specialist equipment. The check takes just 10-15 minutes, and the images are sent directly to a specialist in dermatology for assessment.

3. Answer from the dermatologist

We will contact you with the result within a week - usually within 48 hours. If skin cancer is suspected, you will receive a report that your own doctor can use to refer you directly for further examination and possible removal of the mole.

No. You can book and pay for a mole check yourself, without a referral. If the dermatologist finds something that needs a closer look, you will receive a report that your own doctor can use to refer you on.

You will get your results within a week of your check - most people hear back within 48 hours. We contact you by text message or phone with the dermatologist's assessment.

If the dermatologist suspects skin cancer, we prepare a detailed report that you can take to your own doctor. The report contains all the information your doctor needs to refer you for further examination and any treatment - for example, surgical removal of the mole.

No, we do not remove moles at the clinic. We have them assessed - and that is often the right first step if you are thinking about having a mole removed. The dermatologist's assessment clarifies whether the mole should be removed for medical reasons, and the report helps you get a referral through your own doctor.

You choose whether to have one mole checked (DKK 495) or three (DKK 995). Look over your body at home - ideally with help from your partner or a friend - and pick out the moles you are most unsure about.

The healthcare professionals at the clinic record and photograph your moles, but they do not make a diagnostic assessment. All images are assessed by a specialist in dermatology (dermatologist).

Yes, with your consent we store the images for up to 30 months, so they can be used for comparison if you come back for a follow-up check. This makes it easier to spot changes over time.
